Parent page: Off-Road Biking
Going for an off-road bicycling expedition is one of the best experiences you can ever have. You should however master what you should do to ensure your experience is as smooth as possible. The following are some of the ideas of having an interesting time as a biker:
Make sure you have the right bike
To avoid accidents and other inconveniences, make sure that your bike has a rigid frame, puncture proof tires, comfortable handlebars and mountain bike gearing. Depending on how long you plan to go, you should also consider a bike that has provision for luggage.
Have a toolkit
Imagine what would happen if your bike breaks down when you are several kilometers off the road and you cannot access the mechanic. Always carry a toolbox that gives you the basics of what you need to repair a bike that breaks down. It is always better to be safe than sorry. You tool box does not have all things relating to bike repairs, but it should have basic toolkits that will help you maneuver around.
Avoid the temptation to carry a lot of things when going off-road bicycling. Moving with heavy items across different terrains is not only frustrating, but it can also endanger your life especially when you are going uphill and the weight keeps pulling you down. The rule is to carry only what is necessary. Remember to carry drinking water and energy giving foods.
Do your research
Before you embark on your off-road biking expedition, you should gather as much information as you need about the area you will be going to. Understand the roads, know the possible weather conditions and some of the risks of going to the place. Talk to other bikers who have ridden there before and have them share their experience.
